Review: Purl Soho Learn to Knit Kit

I recently purchased Purl Soho's Learn to Knit Kit and I highly suggest it! I had wanted to start knitting and this kit was the perfect beginners guide. The kit contains two skeins of Purl Soho's super soft merino wool along with knitting needles, a finishing needle, and a super helpful instruction guide. After quickly churning out two scarves I've now moved on to a slightly more involved project, knitting a lap blanket!

Fresh out of the box. Cute packaging!

Things I'm Excited About: January Edition

I wanted to start a new monthly series about things I'm excited about every month. I'm hoping it'll be a good way to look back and recap the year and I think it'll be a pretty fun series! Anyway here's this month's list!

1) Jay and Allie's Birthdays!
Both my boyfriend and my little sister have birthdays this month. Jay's turning 24 on the 17th and my little Allie is turning 16(!!!) on the 23rd. Can't believe she's grown up so fast and will be able to start driving. Also, since Allie and I are exactly 6 1/2 years apart our birthdays are also each other's half birthdays! I'm really excited to help them both celebrate how absolutely wonderful they are.

2) More LocalLevo Meetups!
I unfortunately was sick during the first Boston LocalLevo meetup so I can't wait for the next one! Looks like it might be trivia night or some ice skating, either way I'm so excited to meet everyone!

3)Devacurl
Part of my new year's resolutions was to embrace my naturally curly hair. Part of doing that has been to try out the DevaCurl system. Have you heard of it? It was created in part by Lorraine Massey the author of the book Curly Girl. It's really helping me on my journey towards my healthiest, best curls.

4)Knitting
I've wanted to learn how to knit for a while now and after seeing a post on College Prep about the Learn to Knit Kit from Purl Soho I decided to order one and try it. It just came on Monday and I'm loving it so far!

5) Yoga
I recently got back into yoga after a year long break and I'm loving it so much. Those two classes a week are the perfect "me" time and I leave class feeling so much better than when I go in!

Those are the top 5 things I'm excited about this month! What are you looking forward to in January?

Weekend Recap

This weekend was exactly what I was craving after a crazy holiday season and a busy start to 2013! Friday night my parents, some cousins, Jay, and I went to cheer my little sister on as she cheered for the varsity basketball team. Definitely brought back memories of high school for all of us and was a lot of fun!

Dad, Chris, and Brian in their usual spot

Afterwards Jay and I headed to NYAJ for a quick dinner and some alone time. We had the quietest waitress ever but still had a lot of fun.

"Berry Me in Bubbles"....best drink hands down. I always feel so silly ordering it though because of the name!

On Saturday Jay and I spent a much needed day just relaxing at home. We made awesome homemade gnocchi and rosa sauce for dinner (I'll post the recipe this week, so yummy!) and just hung out. Perfect Saturday night!

Finished product!

Then Sunday morning I caught up with one of my best friends since second grade over breakfast before heading to the gym and running errands with Jay. Another perfect day!

Overall it was a totally relaxing weekend, just what I needed! What about you? How did you spend your weekend?

New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone! As we begin 2013 I've been thinking a lot about my goals for the year and all the big things to come. Here are some of my resolutions for this year:

1) embrace my natural hair texture
My hair is naturally crazy curly but I have a tendency to run in the opposite direction of my curls and straighten my hair most of the week. This year I was inspired by Carly of College Prepster and her recent post about embracing her naturally curly hair by not straightening it for a month. I'm planning on doing something similar and so far (a whole three days in haha) it's been working out better than I expected! I'm really loving all the extra time I have in the mornings now! Definitely looking for suggestions for great products for curls though so please leave a comment below if you have any products you swear by!

2) become the healthiest version of myself
Eating better, getting my gym rat status back on, getting more sleep, and remembering to take time for myself.

3) stop biting my nails
Such an awful habit and I'm constantly so jealous of all the pictures of gorgeous manicures on Instagram and Pinterest! Hopefully I'll finally kick this habit in 2013. It helps that Jay is policing this, he's trying to make me buy a dinner for every time he catches me, great motivation!

4) become a better, more faithful blogger

5) start aggressively saving to buy our first home (!!!!)

What are some of your resolutions this year? Did you already break any?
