Wednesday News Roundup

It seems like today was filled with headline worthy news, here's some of the top things happening around the world today.

1) SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) ruled that married same-sex couples were entitled to federal benefits as well as striking down California's Prop-8, effectively allowing same-sex marriages there.

2) Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder along with 5 other gun related charges.

3) In other Boston sports news,  Doc Rivers is officially no longer the coach of the Celtics. The L.A. Clippers announced Rivers as their new coach today, trading the Celtics a 2015 first round draft pick in exchange.

4) The now infamous Edward Snowden's future is still in limbo. Ecuador has yet to make a decision on Snowden's asylum request and it has been indicated that they will not come to a decision anytime in the near future.

These are some of the top stories in the news today. What are you reading or hearing about in the news? Have an article to share? Leave it in the comments below!

It's the Little Things

Because sometimes it's him changing your oil on a hot summer evening that means more than all the cliche romantic gestures in the world ever could.

Weekend Recap

This past weekend marked the first official weekend of summer and the weather in Massachusetts certainly reflected that!

Saturday after logging a couple hours of work Jay and I hit the beach. The weather so perfect! Sunny but with a nice breeze, great for lounging on the beach! We grabbed some pizza at Matt's Blackboard and made sure to be parked on the couch by 8 to watch the Bruins game. It was an almost perfect day (if only the Bruins had pulled out a win!)

Sunday we were up and out of the house early to go to a lawn show at the Larz Anderson Museum. Jay loves anything and everything car related and because I'm a great girlfriend (or because Jay happily gets dragged along to any and every event/museum/exhibit/activity I'm interested in) I wanted to take him to the museum, which houses America's oldest car collection. Almost every Sunday from May to October the museum also hosts a lawn show. It happened to be British car day on Sunday and Jay was in Heaven!

Excitedly checking out an MG.
Loved all the Ashton Martins!
My favorite car of the day.

We had originally planned on going into Boston after the show but the heat was borderline oppressive and we didn't want to be out walking around all day. So we headed to Legacy Place and got some lunch at Yard House. We both loved their extensive draft beer selection!

Looking forward to many more fun summer weekends! What about you? What did you do this weekend?

Summer's Here!

While Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start to summer, today is the official start. This year June 21st is the Summer Solstice, when the sun reaches it's farthest point north of the Equator. The Solstice also marks the day of the year with the most hours of sunlight.

Not only is it the first day of summer today but it's also National Wear Your Lilly Day!

Because It's The Cup: Bruins!

If you've read any of my tweets lately then you know I'm a pretty big Bruins fan. I love hockey and the Bruins are my hometown (and hands down favorite!) team. Their talent, heart, and dedication to Boston and their fans makes the Bruins, in my opinion, the best team in hockey and the most fun to watch. To me, there's nothing better then coming home from a long day of work to sit back and watch a game. After a crazy game seven in the first round of playoffs (talk about a nail biting, anxiety ridden, but oh so awesome game!) the Bruins have kicked some butt and made it all the way to tonight's game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I'll admit I was pretty nervous going into the playoffs against Chicago but I'm liking the way this series is going! Tonight, like all of the games in this series so far, will surely be an awesome, pretty much down to the wire type of game. But what else can you expect when two of the best teams in the NHL are playing against each other?

Here's hoping this song plays over and over tonight!

Are you a hockey fan?

On Repeat

Lately I can't stop listening to Justin Moore's "Point At You". It's such a fun, lighthearted love song and perfect for blasting on your radio while driving on sunny days or hanging out at the beach. Definitely one of the top songs playing on repeat on my iTunes right now!

What's your go to song right now? Are you a fan of "Point At You" too? Leave a comment and let me know!

Stress

Stress. We all have it and we all have different ways of dealing with it. I'll be the first to admit that lately I haven't been handling stress in the best way. The last year has brought major changes to my life and instead of handling my stress in a positive way: going to yoga, talking it out with friends, doing things to de-stress I've been internalizing it. Because of this my health has taken some major hits. I've gained weight, emotionally ate, drank a little more than I should, and exacerbated some health problems I already had. Basically I was dealing with stress in all the ways you shouldn't.  I guess I was in denial about the level of stress I was carrying and at a loss for how to deal with it. It wasn't until a few days ago that it really hit me. I had been having some major sensitivity with my teeth and couldn't figure out why. So, I scheduled a last minute appointment with my dentist to try and figure out why I couldn't drink even a glass of water without experiencing shooting pain. I wasn't in the chair for five minutes when my dentist asked if I had been under a lot of stress recently. Apparently I've been grinding my teeth a whole lot lately. This can lead to increased nerve sensitivity, particularly in regards to temperature changes. So now I have to wear a ever so stylish mouth guard (didn't you know all the cool kids are wearing them these days?) to bed and while watching tv to avoid grinding. It's really made me think about how else my internalization of stress is affecting my body and my health. I'm going to start trying to better listen to myself and give my body what it needs to avoid stress wrecking havoc however it pleases. Whether it's going for a run or taking a yoga class, curling up for thirty minutes with a good book, making time to call a friend, or watching a favorite tv show I'm trying to find ways to better release stress.

How do you handle stress? Do you internalize it too? What do you do to avoid or alleviate stress?
